Amen to Physically Separated Bike Lanes

And while we're on the subject, this Awareness Test video has been forwarded to me numerous times in the last few weeks. I'm glad to know it's making the rounds.

Update: TwoSevensClash just alerted me to a site he recently added to our Del.icio.us links (they're just to your left under Recent Comments, check for new additions often). MyBikeLane.com allows users to document bike lane violations through an anonymous online form. The example is from NYC but you can see and contribute to a list of All Cities too.

I was just in Amsterdam and to a see a city first hand embrace the bicycle was amazing. I didn't take one cab while there (except to the airport) and saw the whole city on a bike. It was incredible. Riding a bike in NY I think is actually safer than riding in LA. I rode in NY all my life and maybe almost got hit twice. In LA, I almost got hit 4 times in a month period. Either way, separated bike lanes is the way to go.

I ride in Chicago, as do many of the Patagonia Chicago store employees. Most regular riders have at least one story about being hit. The perpetrators range from cabs to police cars. Although it keeps you in the moment and adds to excitement, I'd rather get that climbing or surfing :-) This is an excellent clip; thanks for the post! I'll contact CBF to see what they're doing to implement separated bike lanes -- an excellent opportunity for Daley to practice what he's been preaching about greening the city ;)
