Luxury Liner: The First Ascent of Supercrack - DVD and Film Tour

One of the highlights from our spring refresh of the Tin Shed was an extended trailer for Chris Alstrin's new climbing film Luxury Liner: The First Ascent of Supercrack. We're pleased to share news with you that the movie is finished, the DVD is now available (orders ship on 4/20) and the film tour will kick off this Thursday night, April 2, in Boulder, Colorado. From there the movie heads to Gunnison (4/3), Golden (4/8), Colorado Springs (4/10) and Durango (4/23), then it's off to Arizona for screenings in Flagstaff (4/24) and Tempe (4/25).

In 1976, Indian Creek was a little-known, dried-up, ancient riverbed in southeastern Utah. But in that year the impossible became the possible: Earl Wiggins climbed Supercrack, a 300-foot vertical sandstone fracture from the ground up. Indian Creek is now considered one of the finest international climbing destinations in the world.

Luxury Liner is the story of a bold man behind an unthinkable idea. It pairs historical footage of the first ascent of Supercrack with recent interviews that reminisce on an earlier time, when climbing necessitated fearlessness, confidence, finesse and humility.

When Wiggins' ropemates Ed Webster and Bryan Becker return to Supercrack thirty years later to share memories, they come upon wisdom: simplicity is at the heart of climbing, even today, and the audacious foolishness of the past continues to resonate into the future.

This film is a green production. All filming and editing were done using solar power. During the making of the film we spent seven days in the desert with six people. We produced one small bag of trash. Everything else was recycled or composted. We are very excited to share this film with you.
